Is my story worth writing?

Hi, my name's Tina, I'm new here & new to "real" writing in general & I'd like some feedback on the fantasy/horror story I'm writing. It's going to be a 5 book series about a young woman who can communicate with spirits who is caught trying to bring back the ghost of her friend by a (female) necromancer & is blackmailed into helping her get back at her rival. This magician threatens to reveal the girl's actions to the religious leaders/government officials who both fear & worship the dead & would kill anyone who proves to be more powerful than they are, so the psychic (Claire) has no choice but to get caught up in te world of ghosts, black magic & religious/political corruption.
This would be my first series & I'm REALLY nervous that it sounds lane, melodramatic or even pathetic. Any input (even constructive criticism) would be great. Thank you!
